God's Not Dead 2 (Review)

God’s Not Dead 2, the latest movie from PureFlix, hits theaters this weekend. A few months ago my wife and I were invited to an advanced screening of the film, and boy did we enjoy it!

If you have seen the original God’s Not Dead, you know that it focuses on the issue of faith being attacked in the college classroom. It intertwines the stories of several characters and shows how God is working in each of their lives, all stemming from a philosophy professor’s assertion that “God is dead.”

With some overlap in the plot line, God’s Not Dead 2 introduces another major battle that Christianity is fighting today: Christ in public schools. It seems that you can’t turn on the news without hearing about a junior high teacher or a high school coach who is facing legal charges for mentioning Christ in a lecture or for praying with their team before a game. Without giving away too much of the story, I will tell you that the plot is along those lines. And if legal suits like this anger you, this is fair warning!

The star of the movie is well-known actress Melissa Joan Hart, and Duck Dynasty’s Sadie Robertson also plays a major role. There are cameo appearances by Christian apologetics author Lee Strobel and cold case homicide expert J. Warner Wallace.

If you have seen God’s Not Dead, you will recall that the Newsboys make an appearance with their song “God’s Not Dead.” They return in God’s Not Dead 2, this time highlighting their new song “Guilty” (click here to listen), which is right in line with the theme and message of the movie.

God’s Not Dead 2 will be in most theaters beginning Friday, April 1st. If you have a chance, I would encourage you to see it for 3 reasons:

  • To be encouraged in your faith
  • To be awakened to the legal issues Christianity is facing
  • To support the Christian movie industry

I know that when you see this movie, God will challenge you and change you!

Hello and Welcome

Hello! Thank you for visiting the Challenge and Change blog! I am a preacher, a teacher, a researcher, and a PhD student. My passion is studying and teaching the Word of God. My desire for this blog is to share with you biblical thoughts and practical applications. Some posts may be short and sweet, while others may be a bit more detailed. I may also share my thoughts about Christian movies or books from time to time.

My prayer is that through these posts God will do two things: challenge us and change us. We all need to be challenged in our walk with the Lord. We have to realize that in the Christian life we have never “arrived.” There is always more to learn and more we can do for the Lord. We also need to experience change. We need to constantly focus on becoming less like our sinful selves and more like our Savior. These things happen when we take time to open God’s Word and allow Him to speak to us.

So, are you ready to be challenged? Are you ready to be changed?

Please feel free to subscribe to this blog, and make sure to check in weekly for new posts.
